Biografia

Francesca Maria Corrao è professore ordinario presso il Dipartimento di Scienze Politiche dell'Università LUISS (Roma). Si è laureata e ha conseguito il Dottorato di ricerca in Filologia e studi storici del Mondo arabo presso l'Università di Roma "La Sapienza"; ha conseguito il Master in Studi Arabi presso l'American University del Cairo, in Egitto. Ha insegnato all'Università Orientale di Napoli come professore associato dal 1996 e successivamente come professore ordinario (2002) sino al 2011, quando si è trasferita all’Università di Roma Luiss Guido Carli. Dirige il Master MISLAM. Politiche e Management in Medio Oriente e Nord Africa presso la SoG della Luiss. 
Ha insegnato nel Master di Studi sulle Migrazioni presso il Dipartimento di Sociologia dell'Università di Roma "La Sapienza" (1996-98), presso l’Università Sciences Po (Francia), l’Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore e la IULM di Milano. È stata responsabile dei progetti europei Socrates: "Les Communautés Africaines en Europe" (2000-2001), Les Communautés Musulmanes en Europe" per l'Università "L'Orientale" di Napoli, in collaborazione con le Università di Parigi INALCO, Leyda, Berlino Humboldt, e Londra SOAS. 
 
La professoressa Corrao ha pubblicato numerosi lavori nel campo degli studi mediterranei, della poesia e della storia del mondo arabo, del dialogo interculturale, della cultura e dell'identità, dei diritti umani e degli studi di genere, più di 30 libri e 100 articoli. 
 
La sua ricerca si occupa della storia e della cultura classica e contemporanea nel Mediterraneo e si concentra sul dramma dell'esilio e dell'identità e sul complesso rapporto con l'"altro". Il suo lavoro esplora la storia culturale mediterranea, la poesia araba quale massima espressione identitaria, in una prospettiva interculturale.
 
Membro dell’Associazione europea di orientalistica UEAI; dell’associazione di esperti di letteratura araba, EMTAR; dell’Istituto di ricerca Institute of Oriental Philosophy della Soka University di Tokyo. Ha svolto seminari di ricerca ed è stata visiting professor all’INALCO, all’Ecole des Hautes Etudes e Sciences Po di Parigi, Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, Cairo, Beirut, Amman, Shanghai. Presidente del Comitato Scientifico della Fondazione Orestiadi di Gibellina.

Biography

Francesca Maria Corrao is a full professor at the Department of Political Sciences of the LUISS University (Rome), and Director of the Master Degree program in Institution and Economy of the Middle Eastern Countries (MISLAM). She has a degree in Middle Eastern History from the University of Rome "La Sapienza", a master's degree in Arabic Studies from the American University of Cairo, Egypt. Professor Corrao completed her Ph.D. in Islamic Studies at the University of Rome "La Sapienza" and entered the Eastern University of Naples as an associate professor in 1996, and subsequently as a full professor (2002).
She taught in the Master of Studies on Migration at the Department of Sociology of the University of Rome "La Sapienza" (1996-98). She was responsible for the European Socrates projects: "Les Communautés Africaines en Europe" (2000-2001), Les Communautés Musulmanes en Europe "for the" L'Orientale "University of Naples, in collaboration with the Universities of Paris INALCO, Leyda, Berlin Humboldt, and London SOAS.
Professor Corrao has published numerous works in the fields of Mediterranean studies, poetry and the history of the Arab world, culture and identity, intercultural dialogue, human rights, and gender studies, including more than 30 books and 100 articles.
Her research deals with classical and contemporary diasporas in the Mediterranean and focuses on the drama of exile and identity and the complex relationship with the "other". Her recent work includes a study of Mediterranean cultural history, Arabic poetry, and a critique from an intercultural perspective.
She is a member of the UEAI Orientalist Associations, the association of European Arabists, EMTAR, and of the Institute of Oriental Philosophy of Soka University in Tokyo. She was visiting professor and conducted research seminars at INALCO, Ecole des Hautes Etudes, and Science Po in Paris, Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, Cairo, Beirut, Shanghai. She is president of the Scientific Committee of the Orestiadi Foundation in Gibellina
